Schools Edition · Module 1
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT IN A SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
A school is a workplace.
But it is also more than an ordinary workplace.
Employees interact with:
- students
- parents and guardians
- coworkers
- supervisors
- visitors
- vendors
- members of the wider community
People often judge the school through the behavior of the person standing in front of them.
That person may be:
- a teacher
- the receptionist
- a cleaner
- a driver
- a security officer
- an administrator
- an accounts employee
Professional conduct therefore matters across every role.
Professionalism does not mean:
- speaking big grammar
- wearing expensive clothes
- having a senior title
- never making mistakes
It means behaving in a way that supports:
- respect
- reliability
- trust
- appropriate boundaries
- responsibility
- good communication
- the school’s reputation
BY THE END OF THIS MODULE, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
- understand what professional conduct looks like in a school environment
- recognize how every staff role represents the school

- understand the importance of appearance and readiness appropriate to role
- reduce gossip and careless workplace talk
