Module Opening Scenario — “But I Thought You Said…”

A supervisor tells an employee:

“Please prepare the customer orders before the afternoon delivery.”

The employee is unsure whether this means:

* pack every order * prepare only paid orders * print delivery labels * call customers first

But she does not ask.

She thinks:

“I don’t want them to think I don’t know my job.”

She prepares only three orders.

At 2 PM, the supervisor asks:

“Why are the remaining orders not ready?”

The employee replies:

“But that’s not what you told me.”

An argument begins.

What would most likely have prevented the problem?

Pretending to understand is not the same as understanding.
